Category I Rigs - have a working depth of up to 16,000
feet.
These
rigs have 102 to 106 foot derricks with a pulling capacity
of up to
300,000 pounds.

Category II Rigs - can work at depths up to 12,000 feet and
have a
pulling capacity of up to 215,000 pounds. All rigs in this
category have
96 foot derricks.
Category III Rigs - are good to depths of up to 8,000
feet with a pulling capacity from 125,000 pounds to 140,000 pounds.
Category IV Rigs - work at depths up to 6,500 feet
with pulling
capacity from 125,000 to 150,000 pounds.
Category V Rigs-Swab Rigs - can work up to 17,000 feet.
